about

“Coffee, Whiskey & Weed” is a fun, upbeat tune in which the main character is constantly falling back on his three favorite things to make it through his turbulent life. The song comes in hot from the start and proves to be a real barn burner all the way through. Similar in style to Burke’s previous release Missed My Chance, CW&W feels like a Broadway honky-tonk on a Friday night - the driving train beat, pedal steel slides and swells, classic country guitars and Burke’s gritty, clever vocals stir up memories of Waylon and Hank Jr. songs of the past.

Sharing the inspiration behind the song, Burke says:

“I was talking with a buddy at the start of the Covid lockdown in early 2020 and he was asking if I was all stocked up and ready. I said I was mostly, but I still needed to pick up some coffee, some whiskey, and some weed… and then I thought – oh shit, I’m about to write a country song.”

lyrics

Coffee, Whiskey & Weed

Don’t judge me brother
‘Cause it’s been a long hard day
Can’t seem to find the shower
And I sure could use a shave
Woke up too many mornings
Layin’ on the kitchen floor
Tryin’ to put together
Missing pieces from the night before

I reached the bottom of that bourbon bottle late last night
But it seems I've been at the bottom of the barrel most my life
I sure could use a coffee and I sure could use a toke
But I ain't got nothing brewin’ and I’m down to my last smoke

I’m out the door
I’m on my way
You gotta bite that dog that bit you
Before you feel the pain
A couple stops
To get what I need
Well I’m driving all around town looking for
Coffee whiskey and weed
I’m driving all around town looking for
Coffee whiskey and weed

Well I’ve given up on growing up and doing what I should
I’ve got one twisted up, and a full cup and tonight I’m feeling good
Gonna burn that mother down and sip this fifth of beam
Come tomorrow mornin’ a tall black coffee’s what I'll need

I’m out the door
I’m on my way
You gotta bite the dog that bit you
Before you feel the pain
A couple stops
To get what I need
I’m driving all around town looking for
coffee, whiskey and weed
I’m driving all around town looking for
coffee, whiskey and weed

I don’t don’t need no fancy car
No big house made of stone
Don’t need no woman calling telling me to come back home
Don’t need a million dollars
I live my life low-key
Thirty bucks should do the trick for some coffee, whiskey and weed

I’m out the door
I’m on my way
You gotta bite the dog that bit you
Before you feel the pain
A couple stops
To get what I need
Well I’m driving all around town looking for
coffee, whiskey and weed
I’m driving all around town looking for
coffee, whiskey and weed
I’m driving all around town looking for
coffee, whiskey and weed
